Initially compiled for a possible release as an album for Ralph Records (San Francisco). When the deal fell through, Missing Link released it to recuperate some of the costs they made by sending the band overseas. The band wanted to title the record "Drunk On The Popes Blood". Combines the second Boys Next Door freebie single, the first 2 Birthday Party singles, 2 tracks from the "Hee Haw" EP with 2 at the time unreleased tracks ("Hats On Wrong" and "Guilt Parade"). "The Hair Shirt" is remixed version from The Boys Next Door "Hee Haw" EP.

"Ho Ho" is an alternate take with Nick Cave on vocals from the "Prayers On Fire" sessions, "The Plague" is Tracy Pew's only composition and a left over from the (Boys Next Door) "Hee Haw" 12" sessions, "Scatterbrain" is from a (Boys Next Door) gig give-away 7", "The Friend Catcher" is a demo from the (Boys Next Door) "The Friend Catcher" sessions, "Dead Joe" is the 2nd version (same as Masterbag flexi) from the UK "Junkyard" sessions, "After The Fireworks" & "After,After The Fireworks" were recorded in Feb-82 in Melbourne @ the AAV studios (without Tracy Pew & Phill Calvert, with Grant McLennan, Robert Forster & Lindy Morrison) and originally released as Tuff Monks on Au-Go-Go records in 1982. All engineered by Tony Cohen.

Note: 180 gram heavyweight vinyl reissue accompanied by the "Release The Bats" / "Blast Off" 7" single and a CD containing all 12 tracks from the LP and 7". Mastered from the Phillip Klum re-master, previously unavailable in Europe, while the single is a new 2012 master, taken from the original studio analogue tapes.

"I think it's a great record, really. We did some weird things with the way we put it together and mastered it: we put the songs really close together so there were hardly any gaps; we put loads of treble on it and that crazy cover which I've never really liked. I'm sure it's a great cover but I'm not sure it represents the album all that well. But the actual contents of the album are really amazing and they're a very special set of recordings and that's what really stands up; most people don't look at the cover these days, they just play the music. Henry Rollins did a re-master of it [Phillip Klum did it for Henry's label 2.13.61, ed.] and made the songs have longer gaps between them." - Mick Harvey interviewed for The Quietus.

"Ho Ho" is an alternate take with Nick Cave on vocals from the "Prayers On Fire" sessions, "The Friend Catcher" is a demo/faster version from the (Boys Next Door) "Scatterbrain" sessions 1979, "Scatterbrain" is from a (Boys Next Door) gig give-away 7" and "The Plague" is Tracy Pew's only composition and a left over from the (Boys Next Door) "Hee Haw" 12" sessions.
